Vision therapy
The vision therapy evaluation
A first visit that measures how your eyes track, focus and team up, checks eye health, and ends with a plain explanation of what, if anything, therapy would involve.
Plan on about an hour and a half. Dr. Parrish does the testing herself. Results vary from person to person, and the evaluation tells you what she sees, not what will happen.
What we look at
How the eyes follow a moving target
How quickly the eyes change focus from far to near
How well the two eyes aim together up close
Eye health and a glasses prescription
How reading or screen work feels in daily life

What happens at the visit
One visit, in this order.
- 01
Step 1: Your questions
We start with your history and what you have noticed at home, at school or at work.
- 02
Step 2: Eye health and prescription
A full exam of the front and back of each eye, and a glasses prescription if one is needed.
- 03
Step 3: Tracking, focusing and teaming
Short, game-like tests of how the eyes move, change focus and work together.
- 04
Step 4: The explanation and a plan
Dr. Parrish says what she found in plain words. If therapy fits, you take home a written plan. If something else fits better, she says so and refers you.
- Sudden vision loss, flashes of light, a curtain over your vision, a chemical splash or an eye injury needs care now. Call our office right away or go to an emergency room. If you can't reach us, call 911.
Billing and what to bring
How it is billed
The exam part of the visit goes to your vision plan or to your medical insurance, depending on why you come. Vision therapy sessions are billed differently, and we explain how before you start. If you pay yourself, we give you a written estimate first.
How fees workWhat to bring
Current glasses and contact lenses
Vision and medical insurance cards
A list of any eye drops or medicines you or your child use
Last year's report card or a note from school, if reading is the concern
About the evaluation
Does the evaluation hurt?
No. Some tests use drops that make close work blurry and bright light uncomfortable for a few hours, and Dr. Parrish tells you before using them.
Do we have to start therapy that day?
No. Take the written plan home and decide when you are ready.
Does my child need to bring anything?
Current glasses, a favorite book to read from, and any recent school or eye exam reports.
