Eye exams

Comprehensive eye exams

A full check of eye health and your prescription, for children and adults, whether or not you come for vision therapy.

Dr. Parrish does each exam herself and explains each finding as she goes. If the exam shows that eye teaming or focusing deserves a closer look, she tells you and offers the vision therapy evaluation.

What is included

  • Eye health, front and back of each eye

  • A glasses or contact lens prescription

  • Eye pressure

  • Eye teaming and focusing checks

A phoropter and a slit lamp stand side by side in an empty exam room.

What happens at the visit

Plan on about an hour.

  1. 01

    Step 1: Your questions

We start with your history and what you have noticed.

  2. 02

Step 2: Measurements and the exam

A few quick instruments measure the prescription, then Dr. Parrish checks the health of each eye and how the two work together.

  3. 03

    Step 3: The explanation

You hear what she found, in plain words, and what to do about it.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Your prescription

You leave with a copy, whether or not you order glasses here.

  • Sudden vision loss, flashes of light, a curtain over your vision, a chemical splash or an eye injury needs care now. Call our office right away or go to an emergency room. If you can't reach us, call 911.

Billing and what to bring

  • How it is billed

A routine exam is billed to your vision plan. A visit for an eye problem, an eye disease check or a follow-up is billed to medical insurance. Many visits mix both, and the office explains which part goes where.

    How fees work
  • What to bring

    • Current glasses and contact lenses

    • Vision and medical insurance cards

    • A list of any eye drops or medicines you or your child use

    • Last year's report card or a note from school, if reading is the concern

About eye exams

Do I need an exam if I see fine?

Yes. An exam checks eye health as well as sight, and some changes cause no symptoms early on. How often depends on your age and health, and Dr. Parrish tells you.

Can I fill my prescription somewhere else?

Yes. Your prescription is yours, and we give you a copy after your exam and fitting.
